The NTA’s Role in Apprenticeship Registration

The NTA’s mandate is to re-invigorate and strengthen the national apprenticeship system through the implementation of an overarching framework for the coordination, quality assurance and approval of a structured apprenticeship programme. This aligns with the GORTT’s National Development Strategy, Vision 2030 theme: Putting People First; Nurturing Our Greatest Asset.

Did you know the Government of the Republic of Trinidad & Tobago (GORTT) offers a fiscal incentive for registered apprenticeships?

Companies who participate in apprenticeship programmes can access the “School to Work Apprenticeship Allowance”. This was announced in 2022 fiscal budget presentation. The requirements for claiming the allowance are outlined below:

  1. The apprenticeship programme must be registered with the NTA
  2. Persons (apprenticees) must be aged 16 to 25 years.
  3. Companies will be eligible for a 150 % tax allowance however:
    1. The wage bill for its apprenticeship programme must not exceed twenty percent (20%) of its total wages /salaries bill for one (1) year.
    2. The expenditure must be certified by an ICATT registered accountant/auditor.
