Why use the Unit of Competency?
Units of Competency define the functions and skills necessary to do a job competently. This can decrease the skills gaps and skills mismatches. The Units of Competency aims
to create a common skills language across the TVET landscape and can be used in many ways by various stakeholders such as:

INDIVIDUALS / LEARNERS
- To conduct self-appraisal and benchmarking to ensure work performance reflects industry best practice.
- To determine choice of study and career pathway.
- To prepare for interviews and job applications.

EMPLOYERS
- To design recruitment criteria, assessment rubrics, job descriptions and specifications based on competencies.
- To conduct employee performance appraisals, training needs analyses, and developing competency/performance management systems.
- To establish frameworks for apprenticeships, talent management, succession planning, and delivering training programmes.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND CAREER GUIDANCE PROVIDERS
- Designing and reviewing training programmes aligned with employment needs.
- Engaging in curriculum planning and development.
- Developing qualification structures in collaboration with awarding bodies and providing guidance on career pathways.
